1 Week Bedroom Makeover
My boyfriend Chris’s bedroom needed a major makeover. Now that he has returned home from many years in university studying to become a physio therapist, he wanted to give his room a facelift. His room was bright red and blue with old wooden furniture and soccer posters plastered all over the walls. We wanted to do something neutral so that when he moves out the room could also work as a guest bedroom.

We set a goal to get the makeover finished in one week. I stayed up late one night and created this display board with all of the items we wanted to use. Chris told me that I could do whatever I wanted and told me that he trusted my vision. He said that as long as the room was comfortable, masculine and inviting then he would be happy.
For the paint colours I wanted a medium tone mixed with a lighter colour. We painted all of the doors and the trim Platinum Grey by Benjamin Moore. We also painted the accent wall Platinum Grey. The rest of the walls were painted Silver Satin. This is a beautiful neutral colour that is not too cold.
To save on some money we took all of Chris’s shiny gold door handles and spray painted them a matte black colour.
I wanted to do this room on a budget and wanted to use pieces that Chris could take with him when he moves out. The charcoal grey mid-century tufted bed was found on Wayfair. I found the side table at Home Sense and loved how the wood warmed up the space and the iron legs and hardware added a masculine look.
We both took a day off to do the rest of the furniture shopping. I had made a list beforehand with all of the items we needed. One of our first stops was IKEA. Here we purchased our drapes, a new dresser, lighting and all of the bedding for the space. Chris agreed on most of the items I picked out but the one thing he was concerned about was the number of pillows I wanted him to get for his bed. I told him to trust me and that the pillows would add the right amount of texture to the room and he finally gave in. After IKEA we headed over to HomeSense. Here we were hoping to find some artwork. Chris was looking for something like a Map or a Landscape. I didn’t realize how picky he was with art. We went to two different HomeSense stores and nothing was the right fit. Later that evening I went online to search for prints on ETSY. We ended up finding two tree trunk prints that we both really liked. They were black and white so it matched the room and I loved the different layers and shapes in the photographs. I framed both of the prints in IKEA frames and hung them above the bed.
The day of the reveal was so exciting for me. I had told Chris to stay out of the space after we painted so he had no idea what the outcome would be. I am so happy with the transformation of this space and I am thrilled that Chris loves it too (even all of the pillows, yay!)
I wanted to keep the reveal a secret and the surprise and reaction is always worth it!
